Drooping of eyelid, double vision and muscle weakness was a sign of myasthenia gravies
Double vision |
Myasthenia gravis:- it's a autoimmune disease in which our immune system produces antibodies which binds to nerve endings causes blocked for nerve conduction resulting in muscle weakness
Causes
★ Tumour in thymus gland
★ Genetic and unknown causes
Drooping of eyelid |
Symptoms
★ drooping of eyelid
★ double vision
★ muscle fatigue
★ weakness after physical exercise
★ weakness in chewing, reading, speaking, climbing stairs and walking
★ weakness in diaphragm muscle cause respiratory disorder
★ This symptoms will be reduced by taking rest
What happens inside the cell during this disease?
★Antibodies are produced by thymus gland
★ these Antibodies produced by immune system will bind the nicotinic receptors of nerve endings
★ this binding will reduce acetylcholine to bind nicotinic receptors... results in blocking the conduction of nerve impulses of the muscles causes muscle weakness
Diagnosis
★ Blood test for detecting antibody
★ CT scan for thymus gland enlargement
★ electromyography for detecting nerve damage
Treatment
★ Anticholinesterase drugs inhibit cholinesterase enzyme. which increases the concentration of acetylcholine in nerve endings.
(Cholinesterase is a enzyme metabolizing the acetylcholine...which decrease the concentration of acetylcholine)
★ Thymectomy (surgery carried out to remove thymus gland)
★ Immunoglobulin given intravenously decrease the immune system
